Mandy Henshaw

Mandy decided to work with people whom had a disability from a young age. This this was mainly due to Mandy's home life, having a brother whom had Muscular Dystrophy and Mum whom had Multiple Sclerosis. Mandy grew up in an environment whereby she had different health professional service’s coming into the home daily, giving an insight on how having a family member with a disability and finding the right support for can be difficult. Mandy expresses having experienced some positive professional support and some not so positive – due to this, Mandy wanted to be in a service whereby she felt she could help to make a positive difference in a person’s life.
Mandy has worked in social care with adults who have Autism and learning disability’s since 1994. Over the years Mandy worked her way up through management roles; commencing her employment with a local authority as a support worker supporting adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.
Four years later Mandy was promoted to Group Leader, as part of a team setting up a new addition to the service that was to consist of housing suitable for adults who have a profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) working with health professionals such as Occupation Therapist and Physiotherapist. Mandy ensured she had recruited a team with the right values to support the people who would reside at the new tenancies.
Mandy was then selected to be CQC Registered Manager of the Service after a promotion from Deputy Manager. Mandy was acting manager for a large Domiciliary care service and a Respite service for 18 months and took on additional responsibilities at this time.
Mandy now takes dual responsibility for service delivery management. When Mandy is taking a break from her professionalrole, she enjoys travelling the breadth of the UK in her camper van with her partner and dog, often taking great pleasure in checking out the quality of whiskey distilleries.
