Education
Fairfield House School is an Independent Special School for students who may struggle within a generic classroom environment.
Fairfield House School offers specialist education and care for children and young people aged between 8 – 25 years who experience autism and complex learning and behavioural needs. The curriculum is informed by principles of outbound and situational learning, for those who cannot cope with a traditional classroom setting. We learn through 'doing', by increasing community integration and life skills. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing yet stimulating environment for young people to meet their full potential.
Education can and should be enjoyable, even if young people have not experienced this in the past. Our school provides a holistic and inclusive educational framework, underpinned by the content and assessment criteria of the National Curriculum. The ethos of a spiritual, moral, social and cultural environment for learning aims to equip students with the skills for ensuring independent and fulfilled lives.
We have recently been granted approval to extend our capacity and age range to educate students up to the age of 25 by the Department for Education.
We are able to offer a range of placement options including:
Fully residential care and education placement (38 or 52 weeks) - including those who have been excluded from other settings.
Shared educational placements; offering part-time support so the young person can remain in a school placement successfully.

Ofsted
Fairfield House School achieved an overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ in April 2024 under the new OFSTED framework for inspection.
The areas of ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’ and ‘Personal Development’ were rated as ‘Good’.
All Independent School Standards were met.
OFSTED stated-
“Pupils enjoy coming to School. Typically, they start the day exited and positive about the day’s new learning experience.
Pupils new to the School settle in quickly and form close relationships with peers. Pupils develop strong and trusting bonds with staff.”
At Fairfield House School we saw our inspection as an opportunity for us to showcase the things we are good at and for OFSTED to identify areas for development.
The care, support and drive to best outcomes are at the core of everything we do at Fairfield House and our Development Plan directly reflects the key areas of development identified during our inspection.
